Each of the four themes of Aistear offer ideas and suggestions for the types of activities the teacher might provide for and with children to help them learn and develop. These are what are called sample learning opportunities.

There are eight Teacher Handbooks, one for each theme in Aistear by eduhub.ie. Each Teacher’s Handbook provides a detailed outline of such learning opportunities for the teacher to do in language, maths and for the various play areas where pupils can use their senses, their minds and their bodies to explore and make sense of the world around them.

The handbook also provides ideas for sensory activities based on each theme which are useful for exploring and thinking.  The suggested play areas covered in each Teacher’s Handbook are:

Playdough

Permanent literacy and maths table

Each handbook also gives theme-based lesson ideas for discrete Language (English and Gaeilge) and maths and also curriculum integration in subjects such as music, art, physical education, S.E.S.E. and S.P.H.E.
